<p style="text-align: justify;">Foods at the base of the pyramid should form the basis of your daily healthy eating plans. These foods include vegetables, fruits, lentils, dried peas, beans, lentils, breads and cereals (preferably wholegrain). Eating a variety of these foods should provide a healthy intake of carbohydrate, protein, vitamins and dietary fiber.</p>
<p>Some 20 years ago the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) created a visual representation of what an adult American should be eating: the Healthy Eating Pyramid. The Healthy Eating Pyramid structure was a stroke of genius. The shape and the manner in which the food was represented indicated that some weight management tips were good and should be consumed in larger quantities while some were important but should be eaten in lesser quantities. Towards the peak of the Healthy Eating Pyramid were food that should be consumed the least.</p>
<p>This simple visual healthy eating out conveyed in a flash the main elements of a weight management program. </p>

<p>Those of us who went to an American school in the late 80’s would remember this Pyramid. There were countless media articles and brochures on the subject but then it is doubtful many of us even remember all that now.</p>
<p>About five years ago, the USDA re-launched the Healthy Eating Pyramid renaming it ‘My Pyramid’. This time they made it into an online interactive kind of thing. While the attempt was good, it is still far from perfect. The re-launched Healthy Eating Pyramid Guide while better than the previous one still failed to convey adequate information to help people make the right food choices. Also, it continued to recommend foods that according to most nutritionists should not even be on your healthy eating tips.</p>
<p>As an alternative to the government’s somewhat flawed Healthy Eating Pyramid Guide, the Harvard School of Public Health did a fresh study and came up with the Healthy Eating Pyramid that you see here.</p>
<p>The Healthy Eating Pyramid designed by Harvard School of Public Health is based on scientific evidence that links the food we eat to the state of our health. This new pyramid fixes fundamental flaws in the USDA pyramid and offers sound information to help people make better choices about what to eat.</p>
<p><strong>The Healthy Eating Pyramid Explained</strong></p>
<p>Weight change = calories in – calories out. In other words, if you utilize as many calories as you consume then your weight will remain the same. If you consume more number of calories then it the excess is stored as fat. Exercise helps not only keeps your muscles toned it helps you burn any excess calories you might have consumed.</p>
<p>As we move up the Healthy Eating Pyramid, we encounter ‘Whole Grains’. These are the main source of carbohydrates (energy) for your body. Excellent sources of carbohydrates include oatmeal, brown rice and whole wheat bread. On the same level are healthy dressing recipes, ‘fats and oils’ and ‘vegetables and fruits’. Fats are extremely essential to our body. Healthy fats are found in olive oil, soy, corn, canola, peanut, sunflower, nuts, avocadoes, seeds and fish such as salmon.</p>

<p>There is something important that you need to note about the Healthy Eating Pyramid designed by Harvard School of Public Health; the Healthy Eating Pyramid does not state how much you should be eating. This is an important deviation and they explain it by stating that the Healthy Eating Pyramid is not meant to be a rigid road map. Also, the amount of food consumed should depend on the person’s body size and physical activity. The Healthy Eating Pyramid designed by Harvard School of Public Health is meant to be a simple, flexible guide as to the food that should be on your healthy eating for weight loss.<br />

Therefore, given that the spectrum of nutritional well-being of health as a base, we can say that one is healthier, farther away from death. In this regard, the passage of time is included automatically from one&#8217;s own health is generally begin to deteriorate at some point of their age.</p>

These chemicals are what promotes and helps our mind and body work, so we could say that nutrition is the base and the apex of the triangle of health nutritional wellbeing. This is because without proper nutrition, the body can not have any energy to use their movements, which makes it difficult to have adequate physical exercise or welfare activity, thereby decreasing health.</p>
<p>In the psychological part, a person without the proper nutrition it needs the mind would not be able to higher psychological processes, so the need for a healthy psychological disposition also becomes a lot of achievements. However, it is important to consider in terms of their own well-being of health and nutrition scientists are also accepting the idea that the mind, especially the consciousness of a person is able to override their own design. While this may be true, the contribution of adequate food intake to increase our own welfare triangle nutritional health is undeniable.

 We live to roam the farmers markets. There&#8217;s something so inviting about buying fresh food straight from the producer and what&#8217;s not to love about a leisurely walk through an open air market on a bright, Spring day?</p>
<p>Personally, it takes me back to my childhood growing up in Egypt where my grandfather, Giddou in Arabic, would take me by the hand and lead me through the fruit and vegetable vendor stalls in the open air market of Alexandria in pursuit of the day&#8217;s bounty. Finger-slim, purple aubergines, buxom, crimson tomatoes and verdant, leafy herbs piled high among an array of fragrant, earth colors sat side by side, vendors hawking their prized produce to the sea of shoppers with their mesh carry-alls in hand. Giddou would smell, squeeze and prod at the picks before him to choose the finest he could find, haggling with the vendors for the best price. We&#8217;d proudly display our farm fresh assortment to the rest of the family, which would inevitably come together with fresh garlic, vinegar and olive oil for our mid-day feast.</p>
<p>What happens to our food supply between the field and the fork? Most food has not only traveled thousands of miles, it&#8217;s been touched by dozens of hands and doused with who-knows-what, leaving the cleanliness of our meals questionable.</p>
<p><span id="more-355"></span></p>
<p>Rinsing with water alone is not enough to ensure your produce is as safe for your family&#8217;s food supply as it should be. Pesticides, waxes, organic residues and surface contaminants can wreak havoc on your health.</p>
<p>Food production and distribution methods have changed over the years, leading to new safety issues. For<br />
example, to optimize crop yields many farmers increasingly turn to pesticides to control undesired insects,<br />
weeds, rodents, fungi and bacteria. Antibiotics are added to animal feed to counteract the growing<br />
number of bacteria. However, these bacteria are becoming resistant to the antibiotics. These super<br />
strains of bacteria grow inside animals and can be passed on to humans through tainted meat and<br />
eggs. Fruits and vegetables can become contaminated when they are shipped or prepared with animal<br />
products harboring bacteria.</p>
<p>The EPA also approves every pesticide before its use on foods, monitors pesticide residues in foods,<br />
and surveys which such foods children consume in greater amounts. Some pesticides are rated by the EPA as known or possible carcinogens.</p>
<p>But the risk from pesticides is still uncertain, not thoroughly studied, and worrisome to consumers. It<br />
makes sense that we should try to reduce our exposure to them, but how do we do this? Data from the USDA&#8217;s Pesticide Data Program (PDP) show 90 percent or more of conventionally produced apples, peaches, pears and strawberries have pesticide residues. Substances such as Azinphos methyl, a dangerous neurotoxin banned in Europe , commonly found on apples. There is growing scientific consensus that even very small doses of pesticides can adversely affect people, especially during the vulnerable periods of in utero and early childhood development when organ systems are maturing most quickly, when toxic defenses are least established, and when early programming of risks for chronic disease later in life takes place. Exposure to pesticides is linked to chronic diseases including Parkinson&#8217;s Disease, child and adult cancers and neurodevelopmental. The bottom line is many pesticides are water-resistant to help withstand the elements, so rinsing them under water just won&#8217;t get the job done.</p>
